Descansos
John
M. Valentine
Dead
by road and night,
drunk driver.
Morning chapel:
how strange to find
this small bouquet,
this quiet cross,
in early buzz,
eighteen-wheeler-dawn,
rushing traffic
scattering petals,
like absence
scatters eyes,
morning-glories,
glimmering
down the highway of the heart.
